Treatments for Hair Loss??????? Aromatherapy?
I have had my Maltese for 4 years now, I got her when she was new born recently she have started shedding alot of hair, It is a spot on her back that is almost bald, I've also noticed a increase in the number of Fleas, I have increased her baths, got her a over the counter medication for the hair loss, what else can I do to help this situation beside taking her in to the vet, also what causes such hair shedding.
It could also be the food she is eating. Many dogs can develop allergies and it's most often from corn and wheat and other things. If her food has any of this in it get a holistic dog food and that almost always does the trick for increasing their coat and skin quality.
Oh, I think it's about the food, Why don't you change the food for it.
First, the obvious is that you need to brush your dog. The trick is to have the proper tools to do it. I prefer the Furminator comb. A mars rake does a nice job as well as does the Shed Ease. Don't just brush your dog when matts begin to appear but make it a daily or at least every other day activity. It won't take as long and the effect will be better.
It sounds like your dog has developed a flea bite allergy and the hair loss is the result. You need to get your dog completely free of fleas and also need to get your home and yard free of fleas as well. You also need to get your dog into the vet for a check up and onto some regular flea preventative. Flea bite allergy is an autoimmune problem and will only get worse once it has begun. Additionally, once your dog has this problem, it will always have it and just one bite from a flea will set it off. Get the flea situation under control immediately.
You're making your dog suffer with the fleas. That's why he has a bald spot because he's scratching himself to death because of the fleas. Over-the-counter shampoos and medicines do NOT work! Go to the vet and get some Advantage for the fleas. It's a little expensive but it's worth it. In one day, those fleas will be dead. Have some compassion for the poor animal!
Increasing the baths won't really help unless your using a shampoo formulated to kill fleas. Then you have to make sure she it gets it everywhere, the fleas will quickly crawl into ears and butts while the shampoo is being applied so start at the ears and butt, this will help eliminate them faster. Also once the dog has had the flea bath a flea bomb will need to be used in the house. Follow the directions carefully, you and any pets will have to be away for quite a while. Hopefully that will do the trick. Keeping your dog away from other animals will also help stop re infestation. Your Vet is always a good source for info about this problem also. they can recommend a good preventative as well.
mange maybe??
mange maybe, try vitamins with linoleic acid, not sure of spelling, that should help
Hair loss is not the same as shedding. Shedding is normal. Hair loss is not. Hair loss may be due to a poor diet, skin problem, health problem, or an allergic reaction to something... You won't be able to figure out what is causing this without taking her to the vet.
