how to solve this problem. vv?

it is the new year and you want to get in shape. you only have $100.00 to spend. this weekend Sports Authority is having a BIG sale on fitness equipment. They are selling a weight set for $99.99 & a fitness DVD for $15.99. If you purchased both the store is giving you a 15% discount. Connecticut sales tax is 6.5% to purchase the items? if not what is the least amount you need? Pleasseee help me, thank you :)

Weight set + Fitness DVD = 99.99 + 15.99 = 115.98 15% of 115.98 = 17.40 115.98 - 17.40 = 98.58 6.5% of 98.58 = 6.41 98.58 + 6.41 = 104.99 You need additional $4.99

To start you can add the two prices together to get a total price: 99.99 + 15.99 = 115.98 since the store is giving a 15% discount, you can multiply the total cost by 85%: 0.85(115.98) = 98.583 because there is a 6.5% sales tax, multiply the total cost by 106.5%: 1.065*(98..583) = 104.990895 rounding that, you get a total price of $104.99 Therefore, $100 is not enough, you need $104.99 Hope this helps :)
