I'm a freshman in high school, and I eventually want to become a cop, and eventually, a homicide detective. I feel pretty confident about myself and I think I'd do pretty well, but I want to know what the LEOs around here think. Personality wise, I consider myself very mentally strong. I handle stressful situations pretty well, and I always keep my emotions in check too. I'm inquisitive and I have really good analytical skills, and I have really good grades, too. Now, even though most departments don't require it, I plan on going to college just to make me a more viable candidate. I'm also pretty strong physically too. I go to the gym almost every day, I lift weights, run on the treadmill, and I use the fitness equipment a lot too. I also go out hiking in the mountains every Sunday. I don't play that many sports, but I do run for the cross country team at my school, and I'm a decent runner. I'm tall and on the thin side, but I make it up in muscle, and I have no health problems at all. As for firearms experience, I've shot pistols at the range with my dad. That should definitely help me later on. I've never done anything against the law, and I don''t plan to. My family has a clean record too. However, I did suffer from a mild case of Asperger Disorder when I was a little kid. I received therapies, and by the time I was 8, the symptoms started to dissipate, and I was perfectly normal in no time. Anyway, when a department runs a background check, does it cover your childhood? Can the disorder I had back then restrict me from joining the force? I'm just curious. Unlike a lot of other guys my age, I don't wanna be a cop just because of the action. I want to devote myself to the fight against crime, and I would definitely feel proud that I'd be serving my community. To sum it all up, I think I would do pretty well in law enforcement, but I'd like to know what the experts here think.
No..
That's hard to say. Lot's of people aspire to become police officers and help fight crime and do good but that is not always the case. Police work can be very challenging to certain individuals or be overbearing or simply just boring. You can be the strongest, smartest, healthiest, biggest, whatever, but if you are strong minded, that's where it counts. The sight of a corpse, battered person, severely injured with blood, raped, neglected victims can take a toll on a person. It's simply not easy to cope with. So to answer your question, I don't know how you would handle certain situations. Only you can answer that after experiencing most aspects of the job.
