I am 20, weight about 265, and am 5"11 in height. I want to cut down to 195 or less by August of 2011. I really want to serve my country and join the military. Once I get to a better weight I want to go to a recruiter, find out my options and take my ASVAB. But I don't want to go in now, as I'm not happy with my weight. I have the P90X dvd series, and also a gym membership to Anytime Fitness. Now, I plan to do P90X everyday and follow the routine, but what should I be doing at the gym? From what I understand P90X is mostly cardio, what weight lifting routines/equipment would be the best for me to do at the gym? I am very determined to meet my goal and will do whatever it takes to get to the weight i need. I just need some guidance, as I am really clueless when it comes down to a proper routine. I appreciate any help I am given.
That will help you loose weight but the BEST way and to find better reasons faster is running. I am a runner and it really works. Before, I was not fat but just not active and less happy. When I started I sucked horrible but, I ran everyday for 2 miles or so. Now, I feel great and I fit in to my jeans from 2 year ago! I still run everyday mostly (depends if I am too busy or not) and I eat when I want and always stay skinny! So, don't pay for those overly priced things! Run in the woods or anywhere that feels great! Also, when you run NEVER think about sad or bad things. They don't motivate you! Think about beating your time from a couple of weeks ago or something like that! Eat healthy and drink water only! Ok, I don't always eat healthy but, I can't remember the last time I had those gross diet drinks and sweet teas. Water is the best for anyone to drink. Like yesterday I drank a fuse (or fuze idk)..and water..and milk. (Running in the morning helps you wake up instead of unhealthy coffee!)
Anthony - First, I want to commend you for wanting to join the military and serve your country. It takes a special person to do that and I truly appreciate the service of all of our currently serving men and women and veterans. Second, regarding P90X and your gym membership. The first thing you should do is go down to Anytime Fitness and CANCEL your membership! You don't need it. P90X is a complete system. Whoever told you that it is mostly cardio is sadly mistaken. P90X is a perfect combination of BOTH strength and cardio training. It also includes some different exercises such as Kenpo and Yoga. The strength exercises are total body. You will be doing (on different days of course) push-ups, pull-ups, curls, tricep presses, shoulders, lunges, squats, etc. Like I said, it is a complete system. And the best part is, there's no guessing what to do. It is all spelled out in the manuals. It tells you which exercises to do on which days. No guesswork. No wasting time. A good friend of mine used P90X to get in shape for the Marines and he, while being a little older than most new recruits, out performed ALL of them! If you're preparing for the military you may also want to run a few days per week but trust me, with the P90X Plyometrics workout you will have more than enough endurance. If you're truly committed to reaching your goal P90X will do the job. Follow the nutrition guide and fitness program (with your current weight I would probably recommend starting off with the 'Lean' routine. If you do the 'Classic' routine you will need to modify A LOT - which can also be done). Beachbody (the makers of P90X) also offers a great support community with forum boards and chat rooms where people can help you with questions and keep you motivated (you can even chat with the trainers like Tony Horton!). Lastly, make sure you follow the nutrition guide that is provided with the program. It will outline EXACTLY what you should and should NOT be eating. The diet is VERY important to seeing results.
